3D Printing and Waterproofing: Why Our Vases Never Leak (The Secret of Hydrophobic Impregnation)

If you've ever read 3D printing forums, you've probably come across this criticism: "3D printing is great for decoration, but it always ends up leaking when it comes to water." That used to be true.

At Decofab3D, we refused to accept this as inevitable. We believe a vase should hold real, fresh flowers, not just dried ones. That's why we abandoned traditional methods and embraced a cutting-edge industrial technology: hydrophobic capillary impregnation.

The myth of the porous vase: why was it leaking?

3D printing works by depositing successive layers. Even with the best machines, there are always tiny invisible gaps between these layers. Over time, water will seep into these gaps.

Most creators use epoxy varnishes or glues to try to "fill" these surface holes. The problem? Over time, these surface layers end up cracking, yellowing, or peeling off under water pressure.

The Dichtol AM Hydro Revolution: Waterproofing at the heart of the material

We have chosen a radically different approach with the Dichtol AM Hydro process. Instead of applying a "layer" to the plastic, we use an ultra-fluid engineering polymer that penetrates to the very heart of the material.

How does it work?

  • Capillary Penetration: The product is more fluid than water. It penetrates deep into the invisible micropores of the 3D print.
  • Fusion: Upon drying, it solidifies and fuses with the material (PETG or ASA).
  • Result: The seal no longer depends on a fragile surface layer. The vessel becomes intrinsically watertight.
Did you know? This technology originated in German engineering and was initially used to seal industrial castings. We've adapted this performance to serve design.

3 reasons why it's safer for your home

Beyond pure technical performance, the choice of this process complies with our ethical and health charter:

1. Zero Solvent (Aqueous Base)

This was a non-negotiable criterion for us. Unlike harsh chemical resins that release odors and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), our "AM Hydro" solution is water-based . Once dry, the vase is chemically inert and safe for your home.

2. Total Invisibility

Do you love the matte finish, fine striations, and unique texture of 3D printing? Our treatment respects the original design. It's invisible to the naked eye and leaves no glossy or artificial "plastic" thickness.

3. Maximum Durability

Unaffected by temperature variations, your vase will withstand the seasons without losing its watertight seal. This guarantees a durable item, far removed from disposable decorations.

Tested and Approved by the Workshop

Each vase that comes off our printers undergoes this rigorous process, followed by thorough drying and a quality inspection. Only after approval do we package it for shipment to you.

This requirement allows us today to offer you a wide range of shapes, from the simplest to the most complex, with the certainty that they will protect your furniture as much as they will enhance your bouquets.
